This two-year term, beginning in January 2025, will see Pakistan representing the Asia-Pacific group on the world's most powerful decision-making body. The UN Security Council holds significant influence as the only UN body authorized to make legally binding resolutions, including imposing sanctions and authorizing military action.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hailed the win as a "proud moment" for Pakistan, highlighting the international community's confidence in the country's commitment to global peace and security. Pakistan's extensive experience in UN peacekeeping missions, with over 4,000 troops currently deployed worldwide, positions them well to contribute to the Council's vital work.

While some reports suggest India, Israel, and Armenia may have opposed Pakistan's bid, the overwhelming majority speaks volumes about Pakistan's standing on the international stage. This historic win presents Pakistan with a significant opportunity to shape global discourse on critical issues and work towards a more peaceful and stable world.
